LAKE ALMANOR, Calif. — October 31, 2026. For residents seeking a fall walk or a quiet outing near the water, the Lake Almanor Recreation Trail offers a paved route through forest and along sections of the lake’s western shore.
Visit Plumas County identifies several trail access points, including one near Canyon Dam Boat Launch off Highway 89 and another reached from the highway near Humbug Road. The regional visitor guide recommends Dyer View for people who do not plan to cover the full trail.
Why start at Dyer View?
The tourism guide describes a paved parking area, a restroom and picnic tables at Dyer View, which it says is accessible year-round in ordinary conditions. There is no potable water at that trailhead; bring your own water, even for a short walk.
Some portions of the paved route are uneven or rough. Visitors should choose a distance appropriate to their mobility and equipment rather than assuming the entire path is level or fully accessible.
Fall and winter precautions
The trail is used by hikers and cyclists in warmer months and can attract winter walkers or snowshoers after snowfall. Weather, storm damage and temporary forest restrictions may change access. People considering electric bicycles, horseback riding or motorized vehicles should verify current Lassen National Forest rules, because past published restrictions may have expired or been replaced.
Wildlife viewing can include migratory birds and other lake species. Keep dogs leashed, respect other visitors and do not enter closed areas.
For the most reliable conditions before heading out, check the trail’s managing agency as well as current road and weather reports.
